Where there’s a will…
There’s a way forward.
Have you ever had a toothache? If so, you’ll know just how excruciating that pain can be. Now imagine, you have a toothache. The nearest dentist is 6 hours away by car, you don’t have a car, and you wouldn’t have the money to pay the dentist even if you could get to them. This is reality for many of our friends in East Africa.
So what can be done?
Our model is simple and effective. We bring the healthcare to the communities who need it most.
Our team rolls out of our home base in Nairobi in what we lovingly refer to as ‘The Rig’. The Rig is a large, solar powered, overland beast of a vehicle which operates both as a mobile clinic, and as the sleeping quarters for our team. We bring this mobile clinic full of staff and volunteers to the most isolated towns in Kenya and set up shop to provide free services and items for the locals.
As of 2023, our services now include: oral exams, tooth extractions, oral and maxillofacial cancer diagnoses, preventative care education, preventative care materials, menstrual health education, menstrual health materials, ocular health materials, school supplies, and medicine for the locals to keep after we leave town.
This model allows us to reach many hundreds of people in a week. It also allows us the time and opportunity for flexibility which is an invaluable resource in the bush.
